By November you will want your lawn to be cleared of leaves and the grass to be mowed a little shorter than normal, about 2 inches, or so that the grass is standing upright, but do not scalp the lawn. If the grass is left too long or leaves are left covering the grass, this can smother the lawn killing the grass and cause snow mold.

If there is no natural moisture with in three weeks the lawn and trees and shrubs will need water, especially sunny hot areas.
